Sunday Club

(formerly Sunday School or Junior Church)

We have a happy group of children forming our Sunday Club, including all ages from creche to teens, meeting during the Sunday service at 11. a.m., with a smaller older group meeting over lunchtime at 12.15.

Our aim is to teach the basics of the Christian faith and a love of Jesus and his teaching which will last the children throughout their lives.

The emphasis is on experiential learning - doing, not just sitting there listening or looking at pictures, but getting the youngsters really involved; e.g. buying socks for the homeless or saving tins for the hungry.

We sing lustily, and try our hand at dramatising a Bible story for special occasions - all kids love dressing up! Our craft project for this year is to revamp our old Nativity figures. In this way the children will work together, get to know each other, and leave a real legacy to be enjoyed by everyone in subsequent years.

Throughout all these activities we hope to give the children knowledge of Jesus' teaching and guidelines for living, which we hope may eventually lead to their personal commitment to Christ.

The Guild

The Guild CommitteeThe Guild - no longer exclusively a women's organisation - is affiliated to the Guild at national and presbytery level, and thus shares in its stated purpose:

The Guild is a movement within the Church of Scotland which invites and encourages men and women to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and enables them to express their faith in worship, prayer, and action.

Queen's Cross Guild runs a varied and interesting programme of meetings fortnightly from early October to early April. It supports the national Guild projects of care for others through financial help and by educating members about them.

Overseas Committee

The purpose of the Overseas Committee is to help the congregation and the parish to become more aware of the world-wide Christian family to which we belong.

    In order to fulfil this purpose, the Committee has these roles:

    a) To provide links between the World Mission Council of the Church of Scotland, the Presbytery of Aberdeen, and our own congregation of Queen's Cross;

    b) To inform ourselves and the congregation about the global work of the Church of Scotland;

    c) To support Trade Justice and in particular Traidcraft;

    d) To support Amnesty International; members attend local meetings and report back;

    e) To support Christian Aid, especially in Christian Aid week every May, most prominently through a huge sale of second-hand books and pictures every two years;

    f )To hold periodical education days with speakers and workshops on a chosen area of the world; examples have beenSouth America; Israel/Palestine; and southern Africa;

    g) To develop twinnings with St Michael All Angels Church in Blantyre, Malawi, and with the Lutheran Church of Hope and its school in Ramallah, Palestine;

    h) To extend the hand of friendship to overseas visitors to Aberdeen.
